In how man ways we can choose 3 squares on a chess board such that one of the squares has its two sides common to the other two squares?

For the square which has its two sides common to other two square, 4 shapes can be drawn ( 4C2 taking two sides common at a time).

49 shapes of each kind can be drawn on the chess board from the observation.

The final answer to the question is 4 * 49 = 196
