I came across this question in my courseware. It is known that para-dihydroxybenzene is polar. Explain?
Any help with this?
in p-dihydroxybenzene oxygen atom is sp3 hibridised ,due to lone pair
it has bent shape around oxygen,so dipole moment o-h not canceled
by other o-h dipole moment

Yes, of course! Thanks!
HI Abhinav,
para-dihydroxy benzene is polar because OH bond(which is in para position) is capable of forming strong inter molecular H-bonding.
So it is polar
