hi sirs/madam

a liquid occupies half of a vessel at a particular temperature. the volume of the unoccupied part remaints constant at all temperature if alpha and gama are coefficients of linear and real expansion of a vessel and liquid,  then gama equal to ...

γ can be obtained from the following:

Vol. of liquid after temperature change=V(1+3α.ΔT)-V/2=V/2(1+γ.ΔT), where

V=Initial vol. of vessel.

 Let us suppose the volume of the vessel be v so the volume occupied by the liquid is v/2..

Now if increase the temperature by x

if alpha is the linear expansion of the vessel then 3 *alpha is the volumic expansion of the vessel.

 

now new volume of the vessel

 

v(1+3*alpha*x)

and new volume of the liquid

=v/2(1+gamma*x) (coeffecient of real expansion or volume expansion of the liquid is gamma)

=v(1+3*alpha*x)-v/2(1+gamma*x)=k(as in the question) k=constant

v(1+3*alpha*x)-v/2(1+gamma*x)=v/2

v+3alphavx-v/2-v/2gammax=v/2

v(1+3alphax-1/2-1/2gammax)=v/2

1+3alphax-1/2-1/2gammax=1/2

1+3alphax-1/2gammax=1

=3alphax=1/2gammax

6alphax=gammax

6alpha=gamma
