What value of pi should be taken in significant figures calculations?I guess it is a sure number.
The philosophy of calculations based on significant figures is that the final answer cannot be more accurate than the worst measurement. So, while \(\pi\) is a sure number and one can take as many significant figures for \(\pi\) as one wishes to, it does not make sense to take its value upto too many significant figures. You need to look at other measurements provided in the calculation, especially the measurement with least no. of significant figures and then you can decide on the significant figures that you need to consider for \(\pi\). Generally, if the worst measuremet has x no. of significant figures then you can go for \(\pi\) upto those many significant figures. That could be the general approach but in most cases a value of \(\pi\) upto three significant figures, i.e. 3.14 works well.
Thank you sir!
