I want to know the RS Nomenclature of Tartaric acid
I m getting confused with the priority group order
I know OH is the highest priority but then COOH group or the rest group with C2 carbon i.e. C(COOH)(OH)H is the 2nd highest priority grp.
I think COOH group is the 2nd highest priority group

Looks like sound reasoning .....
In case of tie, one needs to look at the next atoms along the chain as tiebreakers. Double bond treatment looks fine as well in the figure shown. Clearly the next oxygen atom is making the difference in assigning priority order as O has higher priority than C and H both.
