If a person shouts in vacuum, he utilizes the same energy as he uses while shouting in air, but in this case, no sound is produced. How can one verify the law of conservation of energy in this case?
There may be a couple of points of interest here:
- You can conduct an activity. Close your mouth and nose. Now try to create sound. See how much energy can you impart to it.
- Think about any other carrier of sound - your body, the floor on which you are standing etc.
no energy conversion has taken place.
its like you pushing a wall but wall does not move.
according to you, you are spending energy but wall doesnt move.

The fact is that energy is conserved sound waves need a medium for transmission but not for production.The wave produced may not start moving thus you do not hear a sound..The energy used up goes as potential energy to the wave particles...
